How It Works

Four steps, and you will know whether this is working within a fortnight.

  1. You get in touch, and we arrange a free thirty-minute consultation.
  2. Your child sits a written diagnostic assessment.
  3. I mark it and send you a written report on what I have found.
  4. We agree a programme, and start.

The diagnostic

Every student begins with a written diagnostic assessment. I mark it in full and send you a written summary: what your child understands securely, where the gaps are, whether the difficulty is the physics or the mathematics or the exam technique, and what we will do about it.

Most tutoring begins with a conversation and a guess. This begins with evidence, and you have it in writing within a fortnight of starting.

Progress reports

At the end of each term you receive a one-page written report: what we covered, what has measurably improved with evidence, what has not yet improved, and what happens next.

The section on what has not improved is the one that matters. A report saying everything is going well is not a report.

Communication and safeguarding

All communication runs through you, not your child. I do not message students directly, on WhatsApp or anywhere else, and materials are sent to you or to a shared folder. This is deliberate and it is not negotiable.

I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate with a children’s barred list check, registered on the DBS Update Service. That means you can verify its current status online rather than take my word for it — I will give you the certificate number on request.

Practical terms

Sessions are one hour, weekly, at a fixed time. Programmes are paid termly in advance rather than lesson by lesson, because consistency is what produces results.

Twenty-four hours notice for cancellations; sessions cancelled inside that window are charged. I will always try to rearrange rather than simply charge.
